Still Waters Counseling is a diverse, family-friendly practice, founded in 2000. Today we offer outpatient counseling and psychological services for clients in 3 communities: Saline, Ann Arbor, and Adrian, Michigan. Still Waters Counseling is led by the husband-wife team of, Smita Nagpal, Ph.D and Brian Pearson, Ph.D., both dually licensed as psychologists and counselors. Together they supervise a multidisciplinary team of licensed psychologists, social workers and counselors to provide services to clients of all ages and backgrounds. The name Still Waters represents our aim to be still and reflective as therapists. It also speaks to the peace and calm we hope our clients will attain through counseling. Integrative, Evidence-Based, Personalized Help
Still Waters provides individual, couples, family, and group therapy options. Our clinicians come from accredited educational backgrounds. We provide mindfulness-based, cognitive-behavioral and behavioral therapy for challenges such as depression, anxiety, grief, impulse control, emotion regulation, ADHD. Additionally, we are available to assist with relationship struggles, identity issues, parenting challenges, as well as with family transitions. Another unique service is the integration of psychotherapy and personal training, which can help address concerns around eating, weight, or simply personal health. Biofeedback training is also available to improve focus and emotion regulation. Last but not least, Still Waters Counseling is licensed by the State of Michigan to provide outpatient substance abuse treatment. Comprehensive Assessment
A unique feature of our practice is the availability of comprehensive psychological evaluations to clarify diagnoses and identify strengths. We believe that assessment is just the beginning, and we work to provide insight, personalized recommendations and guidance following assessment. Time and resources can be saved by such an assessment, telling us what a particular set of symptoms does and does not represent. Many of our assessments are done to distinguish disorders that can look similar, such as ADHD, anxiety, Obsessive-compulsive Disorder, Learning Disability, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Additionally psychological assessments are available for substance abuse evaluation, court-ordered evaluations (such as through DHS or DMV), and custody evaluations. Assessment is available for children, adolescents and adults.Typically we schedule therapy appointments within one week of the initial phone call, and psychological assessment appointments within 3 weeks of the initial phone call. Complete evaluation reports are provided within 2-3 months, a turnaround time that is hard to find for similar services in our area. Mindfulness for Adults
Learn basic and advanced mindfulness to enhance present-moment awareness through guided meditation and other techniques in a supportive group setting. The techniques shared are brief and practical and can be applied easily on a daily basis. Regular use can be very beneficial in reducing stress,and anxiety, as well as improving self-regulation and focus.
