The Westwood Institute for Anxiety Disorders, Inc. was founded in response to the lack of expertise and successful treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In 1994, upon completing her training with Dr. Edna Foa, an internationally renowned authority on the psychopathology and treatment of anxiety, Dr. Gorbis was granted the use of Dr. Foa's intensive method involving prolonged and repeated exposures and response prevention (ERP) for treating OCD. Dr. Gorbis had much success treating patients at the UCLA OCD Outpatient Program with the intensive ERP method, and many patients suffering from OCD came from around the world to seek this treatment for their debilitating condition. In 1996, Dr. Gorbis began working with Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz, and continued treating OCD patients using mindful awareness training and the 4-step method. Dr. Gorbis later integrated part of the 4-step method and mindful awareness training with the intensive ERP method in her attempt to improve treatment outcome.

We are open for anyone and everyone, via tele-health, throughout California. We are a non-profit community mental health organization providing professional counseling and psychotherapy to adults, youth, children, couples, families, and groups from all walks of life. In addition, we offer an array of innovative therapeutic programs and workshops, such as weekly support groups. All are welcome, and all services are provided on a true sliding scale basis ($20 - $120).

Our treatment approach emphasizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, along with other evidence-based modalities such as Seeking Safety for trauma, Relapse Prevention, Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and 12-Step support programs. Evolve’s robust residential program includes individual and family therapy, psychiatry, group therapy, experiential therapies (e.g. equine, surf, art, music, drama, yoga, etc.) and 24/7 skills-coaching. For out-of-state families, we offer family therapy via HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. We also provide daily academic support to keep teens on track with school.

Founded in 2015, Beachside Teen on the cliffs of Malibu, offers a calming, peaceful environment with an experienced clinical team that is focused on your teen's wellbeing. You can rest assured from the moment your teen begins their unique healing journey with us, your loved one is safe, welcomed and supported. Our exclusive residence accommodates a maximum of six teens at a time, allowing us to offer highly personalized treatment programs that cater to your teen’s specific needs. Providing personalized treatment plans and comprehensive support, we ensure that every teen receives the necessary assistance to navigate their path toward healing and recovery from mental health challenges like: Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, OCD, Self-Harm, PTSD and Trauma, Eating Disorders, Mood Disorders, and Addiction. We also ensure through our Rise to Success program that your teen is growing and empowered achieving critical clinical and life skill milestones and stays on track with academics.

Insurance covers up to 100 percent of the treatment and therapeutic modalities that Newport Academy offers. We accept all major insurance providers and work collaboratively with payers to optimize coverage for families. Many adolescents who receive treatment from Newport Academy using insurance coverage do so through a Single Case Agreement, a special contract through which out-of-network providers can work with a family’s insurance company on an In-Network basis. Newport Academy maintains a full-time, in-house team dedicated to supporting families through the mental health insurance coverage and financing process. In order to secure sufficient insurance coverage, we will most likely need to conduct a series of clinical reviews and any requested doctor-to-doctor calls with the insurance company. While other facilities may charge for this service, we feel it is our responsibility to assist families with what can be a complex process. Our goal is to ensure that families receive the maximum coverage, so they can access the highest-quality treatment.

At Evolve, we cater exclusively to adolescents. Our treatment team includes a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, licensed therapists, on-site nurses, counselors and 24-hour support staff. We focus on what we do best: creating a safe, supportive, warm home environment for teens to stabilize themselves and learn practical ways to improve their emotional health and wellbeing. It’s research-proven that the teenage population has specific clinical needs that differ from other age groups.
