Most students that attend Alpine Academy experience severe anxiety and/or depression. This impedes their ability to function successfully at home, in school, and with friends. Trauma has touched their lives in such a way that many have a hard time getting to the root of the problem and learning to express their overwhelming emotions in a healthy manner. Typically our students are bright and capable in school, but emotional disturbances prevent them from being successful in the classroom and in relationships with peers. Our students tend to implode rather than explode, and self-harm and suicidal thoughts, gestures, and attempts may become ways they have coped with their pain. Generally, Alpine students have a strong desire to be able to return to the hobbies, interests, and activities that they used to enjoy doing.

Shepherds Hill Academy (SHA) is a CARF accredited and Georgia state-licensed and accredited, nature-based, therapeutic boarding school. Our 12-month program provides 24/7 and 365 care with a 5-to-1 student-to-staff ratio for teen boys and girls ages 12-17. Our gender-separate programs each have a maximum capacity of 18 students. A unique faith-based approach and authoritative community provide an unplugged environment to foster healthy relationships, alleviate anhedonia, and promote identity formation. SHA students who take the SATs are above National Averages in all three subjects: Reading, Math, and Writing.
