All of our primary therapists are either Doctoral or Masters level educated, and have many years of experience working in the field of Addiction and Mental Health treatment. Additionally, they are all specially trained in Brainspotting - a highly effective clinical modality used for trauma treatment and resolution of trauma symptoms. Akua Strong Facility at Long Beach offers outpatient dual-diagnosis treatment for adults suffering from substance use and mental health disorders. We provide IOP & PHP programs that include many treatment modalities, such as psychotherapy approaches, medications, and holistic approaches such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness therapies. Evidence-based treatment for dual-diagnosis disorders includes drugs or psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, or a combination. Medications are prescribed for specific conditions evaluated by our medical director: whereas psychotherapy, in one form or another, can be used for mental health disorders. San Fernando Valley DBT is an adherent, comprehensive DBT Program serving teens and adults in the San Fernando Valley and all of California. With more than 20 years of experience, we have a team of skilled, fully trained DBT therapists who offer individual therapy, DBT Groups, couples, and family therapy. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or DBT, is a type of behavioral therapy that helps those struggling with emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance issues. While it is very effective at treating those diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD), it can also be very effective at treating those with depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, substance use and a variety of other symptoms. In fact, the skills taught in the group can be effective for almost any individual. For those seeking comprehensive DBT, our program includes weekly individual DBT therapy, group therapy, phone coaching, and family consultation as needed. Individual DBT therapists participate in a weekly consultation team with other trained DBT therapists. Clients who participate in all of these components will meet the criteria for a fully treatment adherent DBT program.

Some people do not need residential treatment but could still benefit from more intensive treatment than weekly therapy sessions or group support meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous. This is where an intensive outpatient program works perfectly. Many of our patients find our outpatient program beneficial as a step-down treatment program after they have completed our residential program. They continue to receive the support and education they need to succeed but can live at home or in one of our sober living facilities. If you are looking to initiate treatment, it can be difficult to decide between residential or outpatient treatment. The majority of people get the most benefit from beginning with residential treatment and then moving to outpatient treatment. However, some people cannot take the time nor have the budget to enroll in a residential treatment program. In this instance, initiating treatment with an intensive outpatient program, such as the one at Pax House, will offer many of the same support mechanisms and educational tools to build a foundation for lifelong sobriety.
