Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) was initially developed by Marsha Linehan in the early 1990’s to help clients that were suicidal or intentionally self-injuring. However, it has been shown to be effective with other impulse control disorders including substance abuse. This is a strength based, skills building program. We teach 4 sets of skills in a 25 week model, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, and Distress Tolerance. We have a program for teens and adults in three locations, Auburn, Davis and Folsom.

We specialize in helping patients who have difficulty regulating emotions and are engaging in high-risk/self-harm behaviors. The Acera team of highly qualified, licensed clinicians and medical professionals utilize evidence-based approaches such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to teach practical skills for distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and improved impulse control. Through individual therapy, family therapy, group sessions, psychiatry, parent support, and experiential therapies (including art, music, yoga, fitness, and nutrition), we provide a comprehensive and individualized treatment approach for each patient.
