Most students that attend Alpine Academy experience severe anxiety and/or depression. This impedes their ability to function successfully at home, in school, and with friends. Trauma has touched their lives in such a way that many have a hard time getting to the root of the problem and learning to express their overwhelming emotions in a healthy manner. Typically our students are bright and capable in school, but emotional disturbances prevent them from being successful in the classroom and in relationships with peers. Oftentimes this leads to them avoiding school and in-person social interaction, opting instead to immerse themselves in the online world of social media and gaming. Our students tend to implode rather than explode, and self-harm and suicidal thoughts, gestures, and attempts may become ways they have coped with their pain. Generally, Alpine students have a strong desire to be able to return to the hobbies, interests, and activities that they used to enjoy doing.

At Newport Academy, we address the root causes of self-destructive behaviors, not just the symptoms. We guide teens and their families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing by treating the underlying issues—such as trauma, depression, and anxiety—that catalyze substance abuse, eating disorders, and other co-occurring disorders. Incorporating clinical, experiential, and holistic modalities, our gender-specific treatment is family focused and results oriented. From a foundation of compassionate care, clinical expertise, and unconditional love, we nurture teens’ physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs. Driven by our mission to empower teens and restore families, our comprehensive approach supports young people ages 12 and up in building the self-understanding, connection, self-acceptance, and academic and life skills that allow them to find their place in the world.

Rather than an afterthought, as it is in many treatment programs, Newport Academy’s educational program is an essential aspect of our clinical model. Our educational program is fully accredited and provides enhanced tutoring within a therapeutic environment, with individualized educational plans. When teens return to their home school after completing treatment with us, they bring with them concrete study and organizational skills along with enhanced engagement. Our specialized curriculum is designed to close proficiency gaps and help students grow their strengths, while building executive functioning, time management, and motivation. Newport’s educational program also offers credit recovery options for students who have failed classes or missed pertinent instruction as a result of their mental health. We ensure that students stay on track with their education and their college and career goals while receiving the compassionate and comprehensive treatment they need to achieve long-term healing.
