About Serenity Knolls
Located on 12 peaceful acres in Marin County, California, Serenity Knolls is a residential treatment center where adult men and women ages 18 and above can receive comprehensive care for substance abuse, chemical dependency, and certain co-occurring conditions. Treatment at Serenity Knolls is a personalized holistic experience that features a variety of treatment modalities and therapeutic techniques, each of which has been selected and customized in order to best meet each individual's unique strengths, needs, and goals. In addition to the principles of the 12-Step recovery model, Serenity Knolls also incorporates cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other client-focused modalities into treatment. Services that may be included in an individual's personalized plan include individual therapy, group therapy, family/couples therapy, and continuing care. The 12-Step model has helped countless individuals to overcome the despair of addiction and resume their pursuit of healthier and more productive lives. Established by Bill Wilson, the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, in the 1930s, the 12-Steps serve as both a road map and a series of touchstones for individuals whose lives have been impacted by addiction to alcohol and other drugs. Starting with an admission of powerlessness and ending with an entreaty to carry the message of recovery to all who need it, the 12-Steps are a series of practical actions that emphasize introspection and accountability. Though the 12-Steps were originally developed as a way to help others who were struggling with alcoholism, they have been adapted over the decades by groups that serve individuals who were struggling with a range of addictions and compulsions, including, but not limited to, Cocaine Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and Sex Addicts Anonymous.
