Our daily lives can be hectic and challenging. They can even lead to feelings of overwhelm and exhaustion. These challenges might include current or past trauma, loss in any of its forms, major life transitions, fear or anxiety, or just an every day life experience. In these situations, we may want extra support and assistance to navigate through them. Life’s challenges can be difficult but don’t have to be unmanageable. I believe we all have the ability to grow, heal, and change our lives. Therapy can be one resource to support your healing journey and, as your therapist, I will walk this path with you.

Let's be real, living in the world we live in is a challenge right now. Constant changes and stressors, most out of our control. Generational gaps causing rifts in families, work, and online. Navigating our world is difficult, yet you don't have to carry that weight alone. Maybe it's time to face the past so you can learn how to manage the future. Or do you want to better yourself and don't know where to start? Perhaps you're facing big changes in relationships or at work that are overwhelming. Whatever the challenges, let's face them together.

Wanting to know yourself more fully? When we enter therapy, we are choosing a process of looking deeper into the truth of our lives and the parts of our core selves. Although those prospects may sound frightening, good therapy is a gift that we give ourselves: a gift of understanding, cultivated compassion, and widening clarity. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that should incorporate curiosity, acceptance, and connection. My goal as a therapist is to help people authentically connect to their truer sense of selves in order to live more fulfilling lives and have more meaningful relationships.

Therapy can be a waste of time. You can sit down on someone’s couch, spend fifty minutes venting, and walk away feeling a little lighter but knowing that nothing has really changed. It doesn’t have to be that way. Maybe you’re feeling misunderstood, directionless, or hopeless. Maybe you can’t stop feeling certain feelings or thinking certain thoughts. Whatever your story, the right therapeutic relationship can facilitate meaningful change.

Hi! Congratulations on taking this first step towards healing which I know can feel overwhelming. Trauma and stress can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and the world around us. I aim to provide a brave, empowering, and validating space to process present concerns and to reconnect with oneself, others, and feelings that you may have been told you cannot or should not feel. Our work together may include processing the ongoing stress of a chronic medical condition, coping with anxiety, recovering from past and/or current trauma, or learning to cope with the loss of a loved one.

I have 30 years experience as a somatic mind-body oriented therapist who provides support for adolescents and adults moving through issues related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, sexual abuse survivors, medical trauma, falls/injuries, car accidents, substance use, grief/loss, LGBTQIA+ and other life transitions. Clients reach out for many reasons. Some are noticing distressing memories, fears, worry, or sadness impacting their relationships, employment, and sleep. Sometimes parents reach out concerned about their child, teen, or college student seeming more withdrawn or overwhelmed at school/college or home.

Change is not linear. I have come to understand the numerous challenges in life that can make you feel as if you have gone nowhere. The anxiety that sets in is alarming and the depression that may later consume you feels debilitating. However, my work has also taught my the impact we often have on our own suffering: how we often jump to "I can't" instead of "I can try." We have all found ourselves deep in self-doubt, feeling stuck in the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Are you hoping to see how change and success can become more linear overtime? My approach can help you get there.

Do you find yourself wondering, “what will it take for me to feel normal?” It feels like you’ve tried everything, including therapy, but you can’t seem to “get it together” like other people can and feel constantly on edge. Being abandoned by your partner or friends is always on your mind. You might know in your head that you don’t need to be anxious about the things that keep you up at night, but your body tells a different story with the knots in your stomach and tightness in your chest. All of this leads you to feel like it’s impossible to break out of old patterns. You’re ready to dive in deep and find long-lasting relief.

I have experience working with clients across the life-span on a number of issues including life transitions, anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ concerns, etc. I specialize in grief/loss and suicidality as these are topics that I feel often get pushed to the side. I especially enjoy working with teens and folks in the LGBTQ+ community.

Have you ever found yourself wondering who you are? Why you are the way that you are? I like to think of therapy as a place for self-discovery. I'm here to orient and support you during your journey of answering those questions that come from within. Those that might be too scary or confusing to try to answer on your own. My goal is to help you gain insight, self-knowledge, self-awareness, and develop the coping mechanisms you need to manage life stressors effectively. Therapeutic processes are a lot like rollercoasters: You don't know what your experience will be like until you give it a shot.

The ways in which we view ourselves and understand our stories shape how we think and feel. We each come into therapy with unique experiences that inform our current ways of thinking and being; by understanding the experiences that shape us, we can shift them into narratives of empowerment, growth, and change. I am a social worker with specific experience working with men and with people from marginalized communities, including around issues of gender and sexuality. I work with people who want to feel better, overcome trauma and shame, understand how the past still affects them and strive to be better versions of themselves.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
