Who We Are

At Amen Clinics, we provide cutting-edge, comprehensive, individualized, brain-based evaluation and treatment of mental health conditions. We help people with a wide range of issues, including: ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, autism, Asperger's syndrome, OCD, PTSD, brain trauma, addictions, memory problems, learning disorders, and behavior problems. With a better brain, everything in your life is better, including your physical health, work, relationships, finances, learning, energy, mood, and memory. We know that each person is unique, with different needs. Our exceptional staff of innovative, well-trained, experienced, and-most importantly-caring psychiatrists is here to help. We have many ways we work with patients, including phone consultations, in-office visits, and comprehensive evaluations that include brain imaging.

What We Do

Our sophisticated brain imaging tool, called brain SPECT, looks at how your brain functions. How do you really know, unless you look? Amen Clinics has the world's largest database of brain SPECT scans for neuropsychiatric conditions. After doing more than 78,000 brain scans, we recognize that your brain is involved in everything you do, including how you think, how you feel, how you act, and how well you get along with other people. In addition to SPECT, our evaluation tools include clinical interviews, extensive patient histories, diagnostic checklists, rating scales, questionnaires, computer inventories, and quantitative EEGs. Our customized treatment recommendations often include natural supplements, medications, targeted forms of psychotherapy, diet and exercise guidance, and brain-enhancing approaches such as neurofeedback and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

What to Expect

SPECT scans are safe, non-invasive, and painless. On the day of your SPECT image session, you can eat and drink the same types of foods and liquids you normally consume, except for caffeine, which could obviously change your brain activity pattern. You may drive yourself to and from your appointment. Once there, you will receive an injection of a radiopharmaceutical that is quickly absorbed into your body (and also quickly flushed out by your body's own natural processes). This will help your brain activity be visible in the SPECT scan. You will relax and sit upright and still in a chair while a specialist takes your SPECT scan, which may take up to an hour or two, depending on your specific needs. Then you can go home and continue with your normal routine. You'll receive two scans, 24 hours apart-one while performing a concentration task, and the other while your mind is at rest.
