“Depression is a mental illness defined by persistent feelings of sadness and a loss of interest in usual activities. The symptoms associated with this mood disorder interfere with the ability to work, sleep, eat, or enjoy what used to be pleasurable. Having major depression can be extremely disabling and prevent a person from engaging in normal day-to-day functions. While some individuals may only experience a single episode within their lifetime, it is common for others to experience multiple episodes. Dysthymia is a form of depressive disorder that lasts at least two years. Although the symptoms of dysthymia may not be severe enough to disable a person, they can still cause an individual to have trouble functioning normally. Minor depression is diagnosed when an individual has symptoms for at least two weeks, but they are not severe enough to meet the criteria for major depression. However, men and women with minor depression should still receive treatment because they are at a high risk for developing major depressive disorder. Depression is more than just a bout of the blues - it's not something you can simply snap out of. This disorder requires long term treatment for individuals to recover.

“White River Academy is an environment that is small and family directed. Assisting your adolescent in the "change of heart" process is what will assist in making the decisions you always hoped he would. Putting others before self shifts the focus of the teen to one of "what can I do to be productive" rather than "what can others do for me". WRA individualizes academics so that each students needs are met. A high level of commitment to academics has resulted in most students seeking a college education post WRA. Many students have gone straight from WRA into a University or trade school. And some have even qualified for scholarships. You as a parent believe that your teen has potential that they aren't currently living up to. We, too, believe your adolescent has the potential and we want to help them find it. Your struggling teen can and will make permanent changes within and for the better here at White River Academy. Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression) Treatment Centers
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a chronically recurring condition involving moods that swing between the highs of mania and the lows of depression. Depression is by far the most pervasive feature of the illness, and the manic phase is usually a mix of irritability, anger, and depression, with or without euphoria. The elation may manifest as unusual energy and overconfidence, playing out in bouts of overspending or promiscuity.
While the depression of bipolar disorder can resist treatment, mood swings and recurrences can often be delayed or prevented with a mood stabilizer, alone or combined with other drugs. Therapy is an important adjunct to drugs, especially for dealing with the work and relationship problems that can accompany the disorder.

Inpatient or Outpatient Treatment
INPATIENT TREATMENT: WHAT'S INVOLVED?
Residential Inpatient treatment in Orlando usually consists of 24 hour care at a live-in facility. Full treatment services, including medical and behavioral therapy are provided all at one location near Orlando.
Medical supervision is generally placed over each resident. In drug treatment centers, clients can detox safely. In eating disorder centers in Orlando, residential programs enable effective monitoring of the client's health during the treatment program.
Inpatient care offers a structured atmosphere and allows the client and providers to focus on physical and psychological healing.
OUTPATIENT TREATMENT: WHAT'S INVOLVED?
Outpatient treatment programs in Orlando or clinics provide flexibility to those who are unable to take time away from their regular lives, work or school. Programs typically meet at the clinic a couple of times every week for a few hours at a time.
Because clients are living away from the centers, outpatient facilities in Orlando are less able to focus on medical conditions and nutritional needs.
Certain programs provide a combination of the in/out approach: Inpatient for medical stabilization, partial hospitalization for moderate cases, intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient clinics for follow-up.
