Riverview Behavioral - Self-Harm Treatment, Treatment Facility in Dallas
“Self-harm, also called "self-injury" and "cutting" is the process of hurting oneself in order to express or cope with emotional pain and distress. People who engage in cutting aren't actually attempting suicide; self-harm is an unhealthy way of coping with very intense emotions, however some self-injury attempts can become more serious and even become fatal. Some people report that after cutting their arms or legs, they feel a sense of calm and tension relief. Unfortunately, that feeling is followed quickly by shame, guilt, and the return of the emotions they'd been trying to avoid. Cutting is an impulsive behavior that is linked to other co-occurring disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and eating disorders. While loving someone who self-injures can be terrifying, there is help available. No one has to suffer through self-injury alone.

Inpatient or Outpatient Treatment

INPATIENT TREATMENT: WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Residential Inpatient treatment in Dallas usually consists of 24 hour care at a live-in facility. Full treatment services, including medical and behavioral therapy are provided all at one location near Dallas.

Medical supervision is generally placed over each resident. In drug treatment centers, clients can detox safely. In eating disorder centers in Dallas, residential programs enable effective monitoring of the client's health during the treatment program.

Inpatient care offers a structured atmosphere and allows the client and providers to focus on physical and psychological healing.

OUTPATIENT TREATMENT: WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Outpatient treatment programs in Dallas or clinics provide flexibility to those who are unable to take time away from their regular lives, work or school. Programs typically meet at the clinic a couple of times every week for a few hours at a time.

Because clients are living away from the centers, outpatient facilities in Dallas are less able to focus on medical conditions and nutritional needs.

Certain programs provide a combination of the in/out approach: Inpatient for medical stabilization, partial hospitalization for moderate cases, intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient clinics for follow-up.
