Fitchburg Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) is located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and specializes in providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for adults age 18 and older who have opioid addictions. MAT combines the use of prescription medication with counseling. This approach has proved to be successful in helping patients maintain recovery. Unlike some methadone clinics that only provide one kind of medication, we offer methadone and Suboxone to address opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms. These medications can help patients stop using opioids without experiencing painful symptoms of withdrawal. While medication can treat the physical aspect of opioid addiction, MAT includes a therapy component to address the emotional and psychological aspects of addiction. Our group-based practice was founded upon the fundamental belief that adolescents and family systems work best in a positive, strength-based approach. We utilize CBT and DBT principles and our clinicians share 50+ years of experience working directly with adolescents and parents. All groups are virtual and co-lead, providing group-specific curriculum treating no more than 10 clients in each group. The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) service at McLean Hospital is dedicated to providing treatment for patients with severe depression, especially those diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression (people who have not felt relief from prescription medication for depression or those who have experienced side-effects). TMS is offered at both the McLean Hospital main campus in Belmont and at McLean Southeast in Middleborough. TMS is non-invasive and requires no anesthesia or sedation. There are no restrictions on work or other activities before the treatment, and because there are no systemic effects or cognitive after-effects (memory difficulty or ability to concentrate), patients can return immediately to their regular activities. TMS uses magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the prefrontal cortex of the brain. The procedure typically lasts less than an hour and patients remain awake, alert, and comfortable. Patients typically receive 20 to 30 treatments over four to six weeks (five times per week). The course of treatment will vary according to each individual and will be guided by an initial assessment.

Our goal is to support each of our patients so that they can go through the withdrawal process as comfortably as possible. Detox services at Southcoast are available for adults age 18 and older who are suffering from substance use disorders and are ready to take the first steps toward recovery. Patients participate in our detox program for an average of five to seven days, receiving assistance from our care team, which includes physicians, registered nurses, and psychiatrists.

During counseling sessions, adults can identify the events and circumstances that may threaten to undermine their recovery.
