Alpha Family Counseling's primary line of business, and its roots, is a social services agency with over 10 therapists providing treatment to individuals and families in need throughout Wayne, Oakland, Monroe, and Clinton counties through an arrangement with state offices funded to facilitate these services.
The counselor who will provide your treatment is one of a growing number of Alpha therapists whom the agency has sponsored for credentialing with your insurance carrier. These talented individuals have been with our agency for a significant duration of between 3 and 10 years, are fully licensed masters level practitioners who demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, and have a strong track record of providing effective treatment to hundreds of individuals and families over the course of their years in the profession. From time to time, our office has received inquiries from potential clients seeking to speak with a counselor in person prior to making their first appointment. Apparently, some web sites and other well meaning resources have advised that one of the best ways to find a good therapist is to call and speak to each therapist prior to making an appointment.
Because seeing a therapist is an investment in your time and resources, we have some sympathy for wanting to speak with a therapist prior to making an appointment. Unfortunately, we do not believe that phone interviews of this sort are the best way to evaluate whether you can develop a therapeutic relationship with any therapist.
We recommend that you meet a therapist that you are considering for treatment for at least three sessions to assess whether you and the therapist have a comfort level with each other, a clear understanding of the reasons why you are seeking therapy, and a common understanding on the methods that will be used to address any problems that you may be having.
