I have a passion for coming alongside others and believe it's just part of my DNA as a human being. 25 years ago I began my career as a medical assistant and a teacher. In my late-20's I enlisted in the US Navy, where I served as a first responder and was part of the Sexual Assault Victims Intervention team. I've lived overseas with kids in tow, and have a deep understanding of the effects of betrayal, infidelity, and cross addictions. I've worked as a Hospice Spiritual and Bereavement Coordinator, a counselor at several crisis houses and transitional living centers, as well for non-profit agencies providing therapeutic services.

I want to start by saying how honored I am that you took the time to learn a little bit about me and my clinical care approach. It is my belief and experience that complex-relationship trauma and attachment injuries show up in our lives and are the catalyst for symptoms that resemble anxiety, depression, dissociation, hyperactivity and various mood disorders. My approach to care is and has to be gentle, self-guided and compassionate as we explore the inner parts of Self that need attention, unburdening and healing.

Finding the right therapist can be daunting, so I'm so glad you're here! I see health in a holistic way, where there are many pieces to what make up our whole well-being. Mental health is one part of that whole, and my hope for you is that we can partner together to get you the support you need to reach your goals in a compassionate way. I believe that we all have strengths, and sometimes it takes a little extra support to help sift through some of the clouds and rediscover them.

I believe that therapy is, in short, workshopping the relationship between one's physiological experience, one's intellectual or spiritual experience, and one's environment. There is no manual that we are given to work out how these experiences interact with each other, and it is important to experience a safe, competent space to explore where these relationships are causing friction. I have worked with youth and adolescents, people with developmental disabilities in a supported living setting, people experiencing chronic severe mental health issues and homelessness, and people experience mild to moderate anxiety and depression.

I believe that each of us deserves to live life as our best self. Often, shame and judgement about our problems can get in the way of solving them. Developing compassionate curiosity is key to empowering ourselves and creating change in our lives. I believe that therapy can be a bridge to increased satisfaction and a sense of well-being. When life's stresses feel overwhelming; a safe, caring environment can allow you to understand yourself and your feelings, manage your stress, and change your strategies for coping. I am privileged to be involved in such important and transformative work.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. I bring an open, non-judgmental, and empathetic approach to therapy. I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I started my career as an HIV test counselor, supporting people through what can be a scary and difficult time. I later earned my master's in social work from San Diego State University, where my area of study was community mental health. Serving the community and connecting with individuals has been a driving force in my career. I know it is really difficult to be human. My values of compassion and empathy drive me to do this work.

Sometimes our best life can feel out of reach. A part of us feels stuck in cognitive or relational patterns that served us at one time, but do not serve us well anymore. We want to make some changes, but we find ourselves stuck. Poet Mary Oliver asked the question, "What will you do with this one wild and precious life?" I'm here to listen as you figure out how you want to answer this question, and to witness the work you need to do to get there. Our best selves, living our best lives, are within reach.

Within the safety of a therapeutic relationship healing and change can occur. With a compassionate and caring therapist this process can unfold. It's possible to become the person you desire to be. Even with a good set of change making skills we can feel stuck and unable to access a pattern that worked before or create a new pattern. In therapy you can clarify what is keeping you stuck and change from within. Relationships with self and others can improve as a result of the therapeutic process.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
