“While the birth of a child is often met with great enthusiasm and joy, in some new mothers, it can also lead to depression. The "baby blues" are quite common in new mothers and are characterized by mood swings and crying jags that fade after several weeks. Some new mothers, however develop a more severe form of depression: postpartum depression (PPD). Postpartum depression isn't a sign of weak character or that a woman doesn't love her baby - it's simply a complication of birth. PPD is quite common, affecting one in every eight (or 13%) woman after birth. Symptoms include pervasive sadness long past the hormone shifts, lack of sleep, and adjustment to life with a newborn, feelings of guilt, anxiety, stress, and feelings of hopelessness. Some women with postpartum depression report that they don't feel joy or excitement about their new baby, which causes extreme emotional distress. With early treatment and proper support, nearly all women with postpartum depression are able to make a full recovery and return to a happy, healthy life with their new baby.

“Many people operate under the erroneous assumption that people who are addicted to drugs simply lack the willpower to stop. However, addiction is a complex disease and quitting requires more than a strong will or good intentions. Substance abuse does, over time and with repeated use, actually change the ways in which the brain works. Addiction is a chronic, sometimes relapsing disease that leads to compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite the harmful consequences to the person and those around him or her. While the initial choice to use drugs is voluntary, the changes in the brain from repeated use challenge a person's self-control and changes his or her ability to resist intense cravings to use drugs. Symptoms that a loved one or family member may be addicted to drugs can include: neglecting personal responsibilities at work, home, or school due to drug use, unexplained changes in personality or attitude, sudden need for money, extreme mood swings, strained interpersonal relationships, changes in eating or sleeping patterns, an possibly unusual smells on the body, breath, or clothing.

Inpatient or Outpatient Treatment
INPATIENT TREATMENT: WHAT'S INVOLVED?
Residential Inpatient treatment in Collier County usually consists of 24 hour care at a live-in facility. Full treatment services, including medical and behavioral therapy are provided all at one location near Collier County.
Medical supervision is generally placed over each resident. In drug treatment centers, clients can detox safely. In eating disorder centers in Collier County, residential programs enable effective monitoring of the client's health during the treatment program.
Inpatient care offers a structured atmosphere and allows the client and providers to focus on physical and psychological healing.
OUTPATIENT TREATMENT: WHAT'S INVOLVED?
Outpatient treatment programs in Collier County or clinics provide flexibility to those who are unable to take time away from their regular lives, work or school. Programs typically meet at the clinic a couple of times every week for a few hours at a time.
Because clients are living away from the centers, outpatient facilities in Collier County are less able to focus on medical conditions and nutritional needs.
Certain programs provide a combination of the in/out approach: Inpatient for medical stabilization, partial hospitalization for moderate cases, intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient clinics for follow-up.
INPATIENT OR OUTPATIENT: WHAT'S RIGHT FOR ME?
* How much can you afford? Generally, Collier County outpatient treatment is cheaper than inpatient treatment because housing is not provided and fewer hours of treatment (and often fewer therapy alternatives) are offered.
* Are you able to control your behaviors? Inpatient treatment provides constant supervision to offset the temptation of drugs or eating disordered behavior in the early stages of treatment.
* Follow-up support network near Collier County? If you do decide to attend inpatient treatment, look for a center that can offer you or direct you to another service where you will be provided with follow-up care after you leave in an effort to avoid relapse.
* Is your condition severe? Constant medical attention is given to those in inpatient care, which may be especially important for those with pain and eating disorders.
